ONLINE REFERENCES AND LIBRARIES
By Bing Howard
A recent experience made me realize how the internet can be a very valuable tool in teaching our kids discernment. One of our children's friends recommended a new computer game, apparently, one of the characters was a "necromancer". My son had no clue what it meant. Being a concerned Mom, I tried to explain to my son that it was bad and I went on with words that did not make sense to him.
|
He suggested to look it up on the internet. Great idea! We both Googled the word "necromancer" and lo and behold, our search yielded a slew of related information! We found word meanings, reviews about the game, as well as many information on the occult practices of necromancers! It didn't take long, my son discerned that the game did not match our Christian values. It only took us a few minutes to do the research and come to an agreement.
The lesson I want to impart is you should take advantage of technology that is now available to us. However, when doing research on the internet, you should do it together with your kids, don't leave them surfing the net unsupervised. | Google.com and other popular search engines are useful, however, make sure you enable the adult filter.
Now researching any subject matter is easier than ever! Here are online resources that can help you find information on any topic. Save yourself a trip to the library!
